Tow Behind Concrete

Cart-away Concrete

  • 1.75 cubic yard capacity
  • Empty weight: 5,200 lbs
  • 31 HP Engine
  • Precision Rotating Drum
  • 6’8-3/4″W x 18’5-14″L x 8’4-1/2″H

Perfect for pouring patios, walkways, driveways, etc!

How To:

Step 1: Site Prep
1.1. Plan and Measure
  • Mark out the area with stakes and string or spray paint.
  • Check for proper drainage slope (1/4″ drop per foot away from structures is ideal).
1.2. Excavate and Level
  • Dig down 4–8″ depending on project needs (deeper for driveways).
  • Compact the soil using a plate compactor or tamper.
1.3. Install Forms
  • Use 2x4s or 2x6s for forms, securing them with wooden or metal stakes.
  • Check that forms are level and corners are square.

Step 2: Final Checks Before Pour
2.1. Reinforcement
  • For large slabs, install rebar or wire mesh to reduce cracking.
  • Position rebar about 2″ off the ground using rebar chairs or bricks.
2.2. Gather Tools
  • Screed board (straight 2×4)
  • Magnesium float or bull float
  • Edging tool, jointer, broom (for texture)
  • Concrete finishing trowel
  • Gloves, rubber boots, safety glasses
Step 3: Pouring the Concrete
3.1. Position the Tow-Behind Mixer
  • Park it as close to the pour site as possible.
  • Ensure the discharge chute or bucket is accessible.
3.2. Pour in Sections
  • Start at one end and work backward.
  • If pouring a large area, divide it into sections with control joints (more on that below).
3.3. Distribute Evenly
  • Shovel or rake the concrete into place immediately after pouring.
3.4. Screed the Surface
  • Use a straight board to drag across the top of the forms, leveling the surface.
  • Work in a sawing motion and have a helper fill low spots.

Step 4: Finishing
4.1. Float the Surface
  • Use a magnesium float to smooth the surface and push down large aggregates.
  • Wait until bleed water has evaporated before finishing further.
4.2. Edge the Slab
  • Use an edging tool to round the slab edges while the concrete is still pliable.
4.3. Add Control Joints
  • Use a jointer or saw to cut joints 1/4 the depth of the slab every 4–6 feet.
  • These help prevent random cracking.
4.4. Apply Final Texture
  • Drag a broom across the surface perpendicular to traffic flow for grip.
  • Do this after the surface begins to firm up but before it’s fully set.
